I have always been intrigued by Theplas. Whenever I saw any recipe for thepla, I would overlook the ingredients and look at the picture and dismiss it as yet another type of vegetable paratha (or in this case methi paratha). A few days back, I saw this recipe for Methi Thepla at US Masala and I happen to read through the ingredients and also some Q & A in the comments section. That is when I came to know that the addition of besan(senaga pindi/chick pea flour) is what makes thepla different from a paratha. So I decided to make these theplas and the taste was distinctly different from the parathas. It was very flavorful and delicious. We enjoyed with Chow Chow gravy and curds. We had these 2 days in a row.

This aptly goes to the Tried and Tasted event of this month featuring US Masala blog. It is an event originally started by Zlamushka's Spicy Kitchen and now owned by Lakshmi of Kitchen Chronicles.

Methi Thepla

Ingredients -

Whole Wheat Flour 2 cups
Besan / Chick Pea Flour 1/2 cups
Methi Leaves 1 cup (I used 3 Tbsp Dried Fenugreek Leaves, Kasoori Methi)
Dhania-Jeera Powder 1 1/2 tsp
Ginger-Garlic Paste 1 tsp
Turmeric 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli Powder 1/4 tsp (or as per taste)
Sesame Seeds 2 tsp
Ajwain/Vaamu 1/4 tsp (I powdered it)
Yogurt/Curds as required to knead
Salt as per taste
Oil 1 Tbsp + more while cooking

Method Of Preparation -

In a mixing bowl, add all the ingredients except curds/yogurt. Mix everything so all the ingredients are well incorporated.

Gradually add the yogurt/curds and knead it into a soft dough. Make sure it is not sticky. Cover and set aside for 10-15 min.

Make equal portions of the dough and roll them into thin circles and cook on both side until cooked well.

Methi Thepla

Serve them hot with a side dish of your choice. I prefer putting them in an insulated container until ready to eat.

Also sending these theplas to Suma's event 'Cooking With Seeds - Wheat'
