Sri Rama Navami is being celebrated with religious fervor all over India and all around the world. This day is supposed to be the birthday of Lord Sri Rama. The story of Sri Rama has crossed the boundaries of India and inspired many people, their culture and literature. All the festivities along with Panakam, Majjiga and some Rava Kesari are bound to help in cooling off the typical heat of this season!

Rava Kesari

Ingredients - 

Milk 2 Cups (or water)
Semolina (Sooji/Rava) 1 cup
Sugar 3/4 - 1 cup (or as per taste
Almonds Crushed 3 Tbsp
Ghee 1-2 Tbsp
Almonds , Cashews and Raisins for garnish (Optional)
Saffron - pinch soaked in a tablespoon of milk  (Optional)

RamNavami Naivedyam


Method Of Preparation -

Roast the rava in a tablespoon of ghee in a heated skillet until golden brown. 

Add Milk and bring to a boil, mixing it briskly to eliminate any lumps. Add more ghee if desired.
Rava Kesari

Then add sugar and crushed almonds and cardamom powder also.

Mix well until the sugar is dissolved. It should take about 2-3 min to get done.

Garnish with Badam scrapings, roasted cashews and raisins and serve warm.

Preparation Time  15 min
Makes about 2 cups

  9. Happy Sriramanavami! The addition of milk makes it so delectable. The only two Indian sweets my daughter eats are this halwa and seven cups burfi. :)
    Rava vedi kada? My MIL used to make rava ganji for new mothers to warm them up. I had no idea that it is made for ramanavami. However I know it doesn't matter to eat 1/2 cup halwa.:)
