How many of us buy the fresh/frozen khoya/mawa from the stores? I personally never bought but know many who do. I found this simple recipe to make khoya at home in less than 10 min. The process is very simple if you have a microwave, else it might be a little more time consuming but still do-able. If you are anything like me, you will want to prepare this and store in the freezer so you will have it handy when you crave for a dessert!! Give it a shot and you will be glad just like me :)
Watch out for a dessert I made with this khoya !!

Recipe Source - Multiple sites on the internet
Ingredients -

Milk Powder 1 1/2 cups [1 cup=240 ml ] (I used non fat milk powder)
Evaporated Milk 12 fl oz (350 ml)

Method Of Preparation -

In a microwave safe bowl, mix milk powder and evaporated milk without any lumps.

Boil the mixture in the microwave for 3-4 min and then remove from the m'wave.

Mix well and microwave in 30 sec intervals until the mixture solidifies into khoya.

It took me approximately 8 min. But the cooking time might vary depending on the power of the microwave.

Cool the khoya and use where necessary. It stays fresh in the refrigerator for about 4-5 days and upto a few months in the freezer.

Preparation Time 8 min
Yields 1 1/2 cups

  11. Thanks so much for sharing the recipe! I've never cooked with khoya, but this makes me give a serious thought! Did you use carnation type evaporated milk?

  13. Thanks everybody,
@Suma Gandlur and Priya - I used Walmart brand non fat instant dry milk. So the nestle carnation should also be fine.

@ Gayatri Kumar - The fastest way is with evaporated milk. But if you don't mind a sweet khoya, you could try with condensed milk or take the longer route by using the regular milk. Frankly, I cannot tell you how much time it takes if regular milk is used.
