Aur Jho Ras - A Sindhi Kadhi

As soon as I saw this recipe in SindhiRasoi, I felt it was closer to our pulusu variety where we add tamarind along with vegetables. My husband who is a major fan of garlic was very happy with the garlic smell wafting through the kitchen!

So for Day 2 Week 1 of BM #28, here it is..

Source - Here
Ingredients -

Mixed Vegetables, chopped (I used Radish, Potato, Bottle Gourd, Carrot and Beans) 3 Cups
Tamarind pulp 2-3 Tbsp (or as needed)
Turmeric 1/4 tsp
Salt as needed
Seasoning (Oil 2 tsp, Mustard seeds 2 tsp, Minced Garlic 2 tsp, Green Chillies 2-3 finely minced)
Coriander leaves for garnish
For Gatte -
Besan / Chickpea Flour 1/4 cup
Salt and Red Chilli Powder as needed
Minced Garlic 1 tsp
Water as needed

Aur Jho Ras - A Sindhi Kadhi

Method Of Preparation -

In a pan, heat oil and let the mustard seeds crackle. Add in the minced garlic and saute for a few seconds and add the green chillies.

Add in the chopped vegetables, turmeric and 2-3 cups of water. Let it come to a rolling boil.

While the vegetables are cooking, mix the ingredients for the Gatte in a bowl. Make a stiff dough and take marble sized dough and shape them as oblong shaped gatte.

Add all the gattes into the simmering curry and let them cook through.

After the vegetables are almost cooked, add in the tamarind pulp and salt. Let the flavors blend well. Adjust the flavors if needed.

To suit our taste I added a teaspoon of sugar which is not in the original recipe.

We had it over steaming hot rice. But it can also be had as a soup or as an accompaniment to Khichdi.
