Wheat Bran Roti

As a continuation to the previous posts in which a dietitian friend of mine has stressed on the need for protein and fiber in our diet, I am posting these Wheat Bran Rotis.

This recipe has been suggested by my friend, Pooja for people on a wheat based diet. Also this is diabetes friendly. Please note that the quantities mentioned in the recipe are for one person per meal.

I totally agree that to be able to eat the wheat bran needs some persistence and will power. But I am sure the health conscious folks out there would be willing to give it a try!! Personally I didn't find it so hard to eat these. I can't say that about the rest of my family!

This forms part of CCChallenge for the month of December, Week 1.

Ingredients -

Wheat Flour 2 Tbsp
Wheat Bran 2 Tbsp
Warm water as needed

*Note that there is no salt added to the dough

Method Of Preparation -

Mix the wheat flour and wheat bran along with warm water. Knead into a soft dough.

Cover and set aside for 5 min.

Heat the griddle/tawa.

Pinch the dough into 2 equal parts and roll each of them into a thin circle (roti).

Gently place the dough circle on the hot griddle.

After bubbles appear, flip it and after a few seconds, cook it on a flame directly or on a phulka griddle. This ensures that the roti puffs out resulting in a soft roti.

Cover in a paper lined box and make another roti.

Serve it with curry of your choice.

  10. That packs a punch of protein. Does it stay soft for lunch boxes or is it better to consume hot off the stove?
