Undrallu

For Day 2, week 1 of BM #42, here is one of the favorites of Lord Ganesha. I understand there are many variations to these but these are the simplest ones which we make at home. These work out perfectly even for a snack!

Lord Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles is worshiped on Vinayaka Chavithi which typically is observed in the Bhadrapada month of the lunar calender (typically september).

Ingredients -

*Rice Rava 1/2 cup (Not the regular sooji/semolina see notes)
Chana Dal  Tbsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Salt as needed
Water 1 cup
Ghee 1/2 tsp

Notes - Soak Rice overnight, drain and spread it out on a muslin cloth. When it is just about air dried, ground into a coarse rava consistency. Store in an air tight container for future use.

Undrallu

Method Of Preparation -

Soak the chana dal for about 30 minutes.

In a pan, bring a cup of water to a rolling boil, adding salt and ghee.

Reduce the flame, Add the soaked and drained chana dal and slowly add the rice rava while briskly and let it cook for a couple of minutes.

Switch off the flame, cover and let it cook in the steam for about 5-6 minutes.

After it is cool to touch, pinch small portions of the mixture, roll them them to desired shape (typically round) and set them in a steamer.

Steam for about 10 minutes, remove from fire and let it cool.

Remove from the steamer and they are ready to be offered as Naivedyam to Lord Ganesha.

I served them with Coconut chutney.
