If any of our visitors here have noticed some missing posts/comments, erratic behavior in the past 24-48 hrs, it is due to some maintenance issues with the Blogger and we hope that the issues will be resolved as soon as possible. Moving on to the details of this post..

This combination of cabbage and cauliflower used to be my childhood favorite and Amma used to make it frequently (as often as there they were available). She still does prepare it (I guess!!). The only addition in my version is probably the ginger and coconut. Usage of coconut in my parent's house is a very restricted affair.

My dad is allergic to coconut (or so he claims!) so Amma cleverly sneaks it in and my dad rarely realizes the presence of coconut. Even today when he has any problems with his digestion he blames on the food he eats and as per his habit asks amma if she has sneaked in coconut, much to amma's amusement irritation :) [Made for each other??? ;)]

Cabbage-Cauliflower Curry

Ingredients -

Chopped Cabbage 2-3 cups

Cauliflower Florets 1 cup
Turmeric - a pinch
Ginger 1 inch
Coconut (grated or powdered) 3-4 tsp ( I used dry coconut)
Green chillies 2-3 nos
Jeera 1 tsp
Coriander leaves handful
Salt to taste
Seasoning (Oil 1 Tbsp, Moong Dal 2 Tbsp, Chana Dal 1 tsp, Urad Dal 1 tsp, Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp, Dried Red Chilli 1-2, Curry Leaves few)

Method of Preparation -

In a skillet on a medium-high flame, heat some oil and add the seasoning.

After the mustard seeds start crackling, add finely chopped cabbage, cauliflower florets and turmeric and saute them for a minute.

Sprinkle 1/4 cup of water, cover and let it cook for 10-15 min or until the cabbage is cooked.
(Alternatively, Chopped cabbage and cauliflower could be microwaved for about 7-8 min or pressure cooked and added)

Add the paste of ginger, coconut, green chillies, jeera and coriander leaves.

Add salt and mix for a couple of minutes.

Remove from fire and serve hot with Roti or Rice.

  2. I too love cabbage - cauliflower - coconut curry.
And ditto with my husband regarding the coconut. My husband claims it as allergy but I think he has more aversion towards the smell and he can detect it even if used in small quantities. And I love coconut. Life is not fair. :)
